Product Review: Packing Tape

Product review: packing tape
Parent 1 star
Kids 3 stars
Packing tape is a popular item in our house. Its rolls are wide enough to make an excellent toddler bracelet or to stuff full of random things when left on a flat surface. It also has various uses when peeled off in sticky layers.

It loses points from its parental rating about the thirtieth or fortieth time the cry of "fix it, fix it" is heard in a single day. It's not a problem just to be asked, but the repercussions when the object in question cannot be saved with the application of another layer of tape can be severe. The girls see tape as a way to not only resurrect old toys and books, but as a medium of sticker production. Anything can and should be a sticker in the mind of a two year old. As a parent this means that once the tape is introduced as 'in use' for the day there's no stopping it... it will take over your day for the next few hours at minimum. If you chose to proceed with daily tape use, good luck! It will control your life, but your toddler will appreciate the sacrifice.

Playing With Food

Everyone always says not to play with your food, which is a great rule in theory. In practice it sometimes leaves much to be desired by a two-year-old. My pickiest eater, little Cami, settled on salami for the mainstay of her food supply this week. That, along with her newly discovered power over refrigerator doors, has provided under-supervised salami time. During one of these wonderful moments of exploration, as I'm rocking two babies and an offended  toddler to sleep, in walks Cami. She had not only stripped down to her diaper in a burst of toddler rebellion, but she had adhered salami down her chest and stomach using its own juices. She stood there proudly, looking very much like a life-sized gingerbread girl with little salami buttons. Needless to say she knows how far I can reach with three kids in my lap, which isn't very far, and she pranced around keeping me like a dog at the end of a tether. Eventually she loses interest and eats her warm, shiny, oily meat buttons, but really that's just a consequence of the worlds best game of dress up.
